Certified Instructor

For beginners,
we generally start with longe line lessons so the trainer has control of the horse and the student can concentrate on getting
comfortable with the horse and gaining control of their movements on an active animal. This training is in the
tradition of the Spanish Riding School
in Vienna, and has been a tried and true method for developing a rider's
seat as well as their confidence.

We respect your needs and goals, whether it be a finished horse and rider in the show ring or just
a sense of control and an understanding of communicating with the horse. Becoming a real rider is challenging
enough in itself, and if you don't feel ready, or have no wish to compete, that is your choice. We applaud you just
for wanting to learn the sport. If you don't own your own horse, we have lease programs, or you can simply show the
horse you've been taking lessons on (if that is your goal), as they are all finished, winning show horses. Achieve
your dream without the expense of owning a horse of your own!

Most of our lessons are private, one hour lessons so you have the instructor's sole focus. Crystal
Moon-Webster, our certified instructor, believes that it is her responsibility to "ride every stride" with you while
explaining why you are doing what you are being asked to do to promote communication with the horse. You are not taught
only "equitation", you are told the REASON that proper equitation exists. For example, you will not be told to
bring your shoulders back and stick your chest out so you "look pretty". You will be told that by opening your
collar bones, looking ahead and softening your body, you can balance and center yourself, and promote forward
movement in your horse.
That said, we do offer half hour private lessons, as well as one hour semi-private (up to 3 riders).
The group lesson is available to riders who the instructor feels are ready to ride safely in a group and it offers the
added challenge of riding with other horses so you can learn to negotiate show ring traffic in a responsible manner.
Our goal is to create thinking, active RIDERS - not just passengers going around in circles.

All of our lesson horses are champion show horses, so they know their job and will respond to correct cues
from the rider. This is important for a rider seeking knowledge, as you cannot learn the correct cues if the horse
does not respond to them. We are emphatic about having properly trained horses for lessons. They are forgiving
of errors, but will not respond properly if not asked properly. Therefore the rider can learn correct, sound riding
methods. We are also careful to move at the pace the rider indicates they are ready for to avoid accidents
or loss of confidence. Our trainer regularly rides the lesson horses to tune them up so they don't learn bad habits.
At Moonlite Equestrian Center, you won't find half broke horses that won't respond correctly. A rider can learn nothing
on such a horse.

So come and
ride with us - it's fun, educational and a great workout! Lessons are available year round and our horses are loving,
friendly, beautiful, and above all, TRAINED.
